Groupe de type « organ trio », Taxon Lazare propose un hard bop énergique qui revisite des pièces notamment de Thelonius Monk, Charlie Parker, George Benson, John Scofield et Andrew Hill, en plus de ses propres compositions bien originales. De la rencontre de ces trois excellents musiciens émerge un jazz de haut niveau où le swing et le groove y sont au premier plan.

Dans le domaine de la classification des espèces en biologie, un taxon Lazare est une espèce (ou taxon) existant que l’on a cru éteinte et qui semble « réapparaître » à un moment donné. Cette appellation est donnée en référence au personnage de Lazare, ressuscité par Jésus. Le nom du groupe est donc une métaphore de son style musical hard bop, style que l’on aurait pu croire éteint, mais que le groupe s’applique à faire renaître.

Taxon Lazare is an organ trio from Montreal who plays hard bop jazz pieces from composers such as Thelonius Monk, Charlie Parker, George Benson, John Scolfield and Andrew Hill in addition of his own original compositions. From the gathering of this three talented musicians came out a high level jazz where swing and groove are at the front.

In the field of biology, species classification defines a Lazarus taxon as an existing species (or taxon) that was believed to be extinct but seems to “reappear” at some point. This name was chosen in reference to the character of Lazarus, resurrected by Jesus. The name of the group is therefore a metaphor for its hard bop musical style, a style that one might have thought extinct, but that the group is working to revive.
